Lovely in Lace

Last week I mentioned that one of my favorite trends for spring was colorblocking. Well, I may have found a close contender---lace! If you have a Pinterest, I'm sure you've been seeing lace everywhere. There are so many pretty, gorgeous ways to wear it. Plus, assuming that you're wearing white or cream colored lace, you can easily add bold, colorful statement pieces such as jewelry, a clutch, or shoes to glam it up!

Lace Tops:
Such a feminine and classic style! The blush-colored pants, nude heels and gold bangles are the perfect addition to this pretty top!

Lace Dresses:
This picture just screams summertime. The turquoise necklace is the perfect touch!

Again, this look is perfect for spring/summer. Swap out those boots (although they're cute) for cowboy boots, and you're ready to go!

Lace Skirts:
Skirts are perhaps my favorite way I've seen to add lace to your wardrobe. Just the right amount!

Lace and chambray? Love!

Everything about this is perfect and gorgeous. Love the pink clutch!

What do you think about the lace trend? Unfortunately, I haven't been successful at finding any lace tops or skirts. I've seen a few lace dresses which are quite pretty in my opinion, but my boyfriend said he doesn't really like the style. I'm wondering if maybe this is a "girl hot" trend rather than a "guy hot" trend. What do you think?

Monday Morning Motivation

It's hard to tell our bad luck from our good luck sometimes. And most of us have wept copious tears over someone or something when if we'd understood the situation better we might have celebrated our good fortune instead.

Fun Fruit Smoothies

Although it wouldn't exactly be accurate to say that springtime is almost here (it did just snow recently in parts of the state), I have a feeling that it will still be upon us before we even know it! That said, I've been making a huuuge effort to get in shape and become more fit and healthy. I've been trying to cut down on sweets and schedule in some kind of physical activity pretty much everyday. One fun change that I've made to my dietary habits is to start incorporating smoothies as meals or snacks!

I bought this Hamilton Beach blender at the start of the school year, but actually only started using it this week! It's super convenient because it's made to produce single servings. As you can see from the picture, it's the same size as a regular-sized glass! That means that you don't have to worry about storing extra smoothie that you don't drink (I always make too much when I'm using a regular-sized blender), relatively little clean up is required, and it's space-efficient (especially if you're living on campus in a dorm). Also, the clear "cup" part of the blender can actually detatch from the black part, so you could probably drink right out of the blender itself if you wanted to, but I prefer to pour it into a glass!
I'll be the first to admit it--I don't have any expert recipes or tips for concocting delicious smoothies, but luckily, they're very simple to make and you can't really do much to go wrong! I went to the store and grabbed some basic supplies that I thought would taste good in a smoothie: vanilla-flavored soy milk, orange juice, pomegranate-blueberry juice, and frozen fruit. I bought two different fruit blends, one containing strawberries, mango, and pineapple, and a second one containing strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries. I thought the first fruit blend would taste great with orange juice and the second would taste good with the pomegranate-blueberry juice, but I'm sure any combination would be great! Plus, you can easily add any fresh fruit you may have to the mixture as well.

I also went for the vanilla soy milk because I thought it would be nice to have a little extra sweet flavor in there, but honestly I think any type of milk or yogurt would be fine!

I made my first smoothie the other night for dinner, right after I bought all the supplies (because I was so excited to try it out!) and used the strawberry/mango/pineapple medley with orange juice and the vanilla soy milk. It was SUPER yummy and delicious, but I ended up being hungry not too long after and had to eat a protien bar to supplement it. After doing some more research, I decided that I need to buy some protein powder or fiber or a similar substance to add to it, so that I end up feeling full afterwards! I think the smoothie without the supplements would be great for a snack or dessert, however...afterall, it has relatively little calories and good nutrients!

What are your thoughts on smoothies as meals? What are your favorite smoothie recipes or combinations?

PS. Speaking of spring...did anyone else see this super duper exciting tweet from Marley Lilly yesterday?!
Good to know that for the ladies like myself who have been obsessing over these pictures on Pinterest for the past few months, we'll finally be able to wear this cute swimsuit ourselves. Can't wait!

Quite Colorful

With spring break coming up and the promise of warmer days ahead, I'm already looking forward to all of the gorgeous and fun spring styles that we've been seeing glimpses of. One of my absolute favorite trends for this spring is colorblocking.

While colorblocking isn't exactly "new", it is taking a little spin in a different direction this season, and I've been seeing WAY more colorful options available than I have in seasons past. Bold neon or pretty pastel colors are perfect for spring, and can make a dress or shirt with a simple style or cut much more fun and fashionable. I've seen plenty of cute colorblocked shirts, but dresses are my favorite way to wear this trend. Here are some styles I'm REALLY loving (*all pictures were found on Pinterest*) :

Nautical navy and pretty pink? Check.
Classic, flattering style? Check.
Fun bow in the back? Check.
Perfect!

Such gorgeous jewel tones, and I love the flashes of gold outlining!

Simple, yet cute and feminine. Perfect for springtime!

Similar color scheme to the first dress, but the brighter colors and zip-up back give it a bolder feel.

Colorblocked shoes? Yes please!

Can you tell what colors I'm loving for this style? Hehehe :) Luckily I've been seeing SO many gorgeous looks that combine different shades of blue, pink, orange, and purple (my favorites) but I've even seen a few green, red, and yellow colorblocked items, which kind of have a different feel of their own. I'm DYING to purchase some more of these fun, colorful styles to add to my collection!

Are you loving the colorblock trend as much as I am? Where have you been finding colorblocked items and inspiration?

Michael Kors Watch

Yesterday while sitting in class, I checked the time on my watch and it hit me--I hadn't done a post yet about the watch I recieved as a birthday present from my parents back in January! I briefly mentioned on the post I wrote about my birthday that my parents were buying me a new watch, and I posted a picture of a style that I was leaning towards, but I ended up going in a completely different direction! Let me just say, I'm in LOVE with this watch and have gotten numerous compliments on it, but beware....its a tad bit..."much":

I'm sure I know what a lot of you are thinking...is that much sparkle really necessary on a watch? Well, I had the same concern when I was debating about which watch to get. There was a different gold one that I was really loving, but then I tried on this one and just fell in love! I love how feminine the super circular watch face is, and when the watch is part of a whole outft the "bling" really doesn't make too much of a statement. I've even used it to make "mini" stacks, and it really looks great!

Sorry for the horrible quality photo, but here I paired it with my Tory Burch wrap bracelet.
It definitely can make a big statement, but luckily I think its not hard to make that statement say "fun, girly, bold, and dressy" rather than "flashy" or "blingy".

Would you wear this Michael Kors watch? Do you tend to embrace "bold" styles, or go for more conservative pieces?

Monday Morning Motivation: Video

Today my Monday Morning Motivation is a bit different than usual...I decided to share this cute/hilarious video because if you're like me, it can actually brighten your day by making you laugh AND inspire you:

Heheh pretty wise for such a young kid, and he is just so stinkin' cute! Happy Monday everyone :)

Weekend Recap

Hey everyone--hope all of you have been having a great weekend so far! For me, this weekend was quite relaxing and a nice change of pace from the busy week I just had. Derek arrived Friday around 12pm, and we grabbed a quick lunch and then spent some time hanging out and figuring out our plans for the weekend. Well, as I mentioned in my last post, the Lilly Pulitzer store at South Park opened at 10am on Friday, so around 2pm I finaaallly convinced Derek to make the trip with me to South Park to check it out. The ladies there did a WONDERFUL job decorating. As expected, there was pink everywhere...the designs/lights on the ceiling were my favorite! Sorry, I totally forgot to take any pictures inside the store, but I did manage to snap these two outside the store though:

Saturday afternoon we met my parents at Anna's school, to watch her perform in the play "Guys and Dolls." It was such a cute play, and they did a great job! We ate a nice dinner with my parents afterwards, and then Derek and I came back to school to snuggle up and watch Toy Story 3...it was such a fun movie!

Anyways, Derek just headed back to Clemson and I'm about to sit down and spend the rest of my evening doing some school work---bleh :( For those of you just north of here experiencing snow right now (I'm looking at you Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Greensboro, Boone, etc.) PLEASE send some of that icy weather to Charlotte...I would just love a little break from classes tomorrow for a snow day, or at the very least a pretty change of scenery ;)

Whew! Finally Some Down Time...

This sure has been a hectic week, but finally after multiple tests/papers/assignments (plus babysitting), I have some down time and am ready for the weekend! After my crazy mountain weekend last weekend and this super busy week, I'm so ready to just relax and do nothing! Luckily Derek is coming to visit me this weekend...he should be here around noon tomorrow so we can grab some lunch and then come back and hibernate in my room all weekend!

However, we will have to venture outside at some point on Saturday...my talented younger sister Anna is performing in a play downtown this weekend, so my family, Derek, and I will be going to watch her perform at 2pm on Saturday, and then grabbing a super early dinner and dessert afterwards. I think my parents said they were planning on going to the Cheesecake Factory--yum! I'm always overwhelmed by the HUGE number of tasty entrees they offer!

Also, for those of you in the Charlotte area, did you know that Lilly Pulitzer at South Park Mall is officially opening tomorrow (Friday) at 10am?! Their Grand Opening isn't until next week I believe, but I maaay have to drag Derek by the mall tomorrow to check it out--I'm SOO excited!! :)

What are your plans for this weekend?

Happy Valentines Day: Our Love Story

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Whether you're single, in a relationship, or happily wed, I hope everyone can find SOMETHING worth celebrating today! I've been seeing a lot of my favorite bloggers participate in the "What's Your Love Story" linkup that's been going around, and I decided that Valentine's Day would be the perfect day to finally share my own!

1. How long have you and your significant other been together?
Just over a year...pretty much 1 year and 1 month!

2. How did you meet? {What's your "love" story?}
At the beginning of my freshman year of college, my roommate at the time, Rachel, was dating a guy named Ty who went to school at Clemson. During the last weekend of August, she invited me to go with her to visit Ty in Clemson, and to attend his fraternity's Rush Blowout party that weekend. Well, Derek was Ty's roommate at the time, and we ended up talking all night at the party and having a fun time together that weekend. However, as cute as I thought he was and as much as we hit it off, I never really thought we'd end up dating! I wasn't even sure if I'd ever see him again. However, I ended up giving him my number and we began texting pretty much nonstop, and two weekends later when Ty was planning to come visit Rachel, I somehow stepped out of my usually shy self and asked him to come along for the trip. He did, and we began visiting each other every two weeks from that point on--eventually even without Rachel or Ty. We started officially dating almost 5 months later.

3. If married, how long have you been married? If not, is this the guy you hope to marry? {do tell}
We're not married or engaged--but yes, I can definitely see myself with Derek for many years down the road! He's actually already started (strongly) hinting that he'd like to get engaged by the end of this year!

4. If you are married, where did you get married at? Big or small wedding? If not, where would you like to get married? And will it be big or small?
I think I would definitely like to get married outside! Maybe somewhere near the water (not necessarily right on the beach), or at a pretty old plantation or garden....basically anywhere warm, cheerful, Southern, and colorful! And I would think our wedding would probably be small-to-medium sized.

5. Do you have any nick-names that you call one another? Do share!
Hmm...not really! I'll call him "baby" a lot, and every once in a while he'll call me a cute, random name like "lovely" or something, but there's nothing he calls me regularly. Although recently he has taken to calling me "K-Woww" for some reason, but I'm not sure that counts....

6. Name 3 things you love most about your honey.
1. He's goofy. We're both goofy together. We never seem to get bored around each other because when we're together, we're always doing silly things to make each other laugh. We always joke that we had to supress our "weird" before we met each other because we never felt comfortable enough with anyone else to let it out.
2. I can honestly say that he would do anything for me. Not just the little things, like always letting me pick where to eat dinner or agreeing to watch wedding shows and HGTV with me when I want (both of which he does), but I mean the bigger things. At the beginning of this semester, he drove 2 hours to come see me at 11pm on a Tuesday night because I was lonely and anxious about starting at a new school, and even when he's busy or with his friends, if I call him and really need me, he'll always put aside what he's doing and be there for me. Nothing feels better than that.
3. He's one of the most honest and genuine people I know. Whenever he's talking to me, it's so easy to look in his eyes and see that what he's saying is true. I'm not usually a super trusting person, so it's so comforting to know that I've found someone who I know I can believe in.

7. Tell us how he proposed? Or your ideal proposal?
My ideal proposal would be anything that is intimate, thoughtful, and genuine. I would prefer something where we're the only two around. I don't want anything that puts me too much in the spotlight in front of others...I just want it to be a special moment that the two of us share.

8. Is he a flowers and teddy bear kind of guy for v-day, or strawberries, champagne, and rose petals?
Flowers and teddy bear, for sure!

9. Are you a sunset dinner on the beach kind of girl, or pop a movie in and relax on the couch?
So hard to choose! For the most part I like snuggling on the couch, but dinner on the beach for special occassions!

10. Tell us one thing you'd like to do with your significant one day. If you could do anything? Go anywhere?
Travel! I'd love to go anywhere with him--the shared experience is all I really want!

11. Tell us what you plan on doing on this Valentine's Day.
Haha--nothing really! We won't be together at all today because of the long distance...I think this weekend I might convince him to go out to dinner and see The Vow though ;)

12. Are you asking for anything this Valentine's Day?
Nope!

13. Give us one piece of advice for keeping a relationship strong and full of love.
Be honest, be forgiving, and always look for the good. I guess that's not technically "one" piece of advice, but I really think those are the essentials!

14. Show us a picture of what love means to you.

Weekend Recap: Mountain Weekend

Hey y'all! Hope everyone is having a fabulous Monday so far...I know this is my second posting of the day (I posted my usual "Monday Morning Motivation earlier--I tried to relate it to Valentine's Day, go check it out!) but I wanted to post my Weekend Recap today as well! This was definitely a very fun--yet tiring--weekend and I wanted to share some of my pictures!

This weekend, my boyfriend and his fraternity brothers hosted a mountain weekend in Gatlinburg, TN! For those of you not familiar with this fraternity tradition, all of the guys invite dates to go with them to the mountains. The dates paint coolers and fill it with food and drinks (unless you're lucky enough to have a boyfriend who pays for everything like me :] ). Then everyone heads up there and spends the whole weekend hanging out and having a blast! It was great getting to know some of Derek's fraternity brothers who I didn't know as well before, as well as all of their girlfriends/dates, most of whom I had never met before! We all had so much fun--plus it even ended up snowing Saturday, which added to the excitement!

View from the side of the cabin!

Some of the group hanging out Saturday morning

It started snowing Saturday morning around 7:30! Yes, we were somehow up that early...

"Braving" the cold for a picture on the porch with the snow :)

We headed into town around 1pm on Saturday for lunch

Everyone wore their flannel!

Hmm...not sure what was supposed to be happening here...hahah

Me and one of Derek's roommates

Luckily there was relatively minor damage...oh well, what can you expect with a house full of college boys!

Weekend Recap: Super Bowl Sunday

Hey y'all! Hope everyone had a fabulous Superbowl weekend...I know I sure did! I headed down to Clemson on Friday evening after babysitting, to stay there for the weekend. By the time I got there on Friday it was already pretty late, so we grabbed a quick bite to eat (Zaxby's...don't laugh) and spent the rest of the night relaxing at his apartment. I actually persuaded him to watch "The Help" with me (one of my FAVORITE books of all time, and a fabulous movie) but he got super bored about halfway through, so I decided to spare him and turn it off even though it KILLED me (I'm not being overly dramatic here, right?)

Anyways, the next day was easily the laziest day of my life--we didn't even step foot out of his apartment until 3pm for "lunch" at a yummy local restaurant called Sardi's. I got a grilled chicken ceasar wrap...sooo delicious! Then we spent the entire rest of the day hanging out with his roommates and watching re-runs of How I Met Your Mother...yes, this is the exciting I life I lead....hahah. Anyways, the rest of the weekend from that point forwards was filled with DELICIOUS food, if I do say so myself (since I cooked it all). I made simple toasted ham and cheese sliders with ranch for Derek, his roommates, and I that evening, and followed it up with a SUPPPERRR yummy S'mores Cookie Bar---I'll be sharing the recipe soon (is it just me, or have I been posting way too many recipes lately?)!

Sunday was, of course, the Super Bowl! I have to say, I didn't care much about either of the teams playing this year (okay, maybe I just don't care about professional football) but I was sliiiightly hoping the Patriots would win, and I may or may not have only based my opinion upon which quarterback I thought was cuter...

If he's good enough for Gisele...

We watched the game over at Derek's friend's apartment with a few other people, which was pretty fun! I made some yummy buffalo chicken dip, which Derek and his roommates loved so much, they actually didn't even let me bring it over to the party--they kept it at their apartment for themselves!
Overall it was definitely a nice weekend...a little bit of fun and socializing, a lot of relaxing, and a WHOLE lot of good food! Unfortunately this week is jam-packed with school work and babysitting, but luckily I have yet another fun weekend coming up in just a few days, which I'll fill you in on shortly!

What did you do to celebrate Super Bowl Weekend?
